Captain Ildar Akhmerov, the Senior Commander of the Russian anti-submarine warship “Admiral Tributs,” currently calling in Port Victoria, has made a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs today at Maison Quéau de Quinssy.

The Captain, who was accompanied by the Russian Resident Ambassador to Seychelles, Mr. Mikhail Kalinin, met with Minister Jean-Paul Adam and discussed the on-going cooperation between the Seychelles government and the Russian defense forces.

Minister Adam extended the thanks of the Seychelles government for the Russian navy’s participation in anti-piracy surveillance in the Indian Ocean region, and a special thanks was also extended for their participation in the “Carnaval International de Victoria” parade.

“We are very pleased to have a Russian presence in our waters assisting us in our fight against piracy – proof of the solidarity of our two nations in facing this challenge,” said the Minister.

The Minister also added that he was very pleased that Russian vessels in the region choose Seychelles as their port of choice for their rest and recuperation, and supply needs.

The “Admiral Tributs” will be in Port Victoria until March 5.
